I get such a thrill out of hearing from people who have used one of my DIY projects as inspiration for their own.  Without a question, the most popular DIY project on my entire website is the diamond tufted headboard

Hardly a day goes by that I don’t get a comment on that post, a question about the instructions, an e-mail asking for advice, or a picture from someone who just completed their headboard and wanted to share it with me.  I love it!  I love it all, comments, questions, pictures, all of it, because it means that y’all aren’t just reading my blog and website, but y’all are actually putting the info to good use.  So keep ‘em coming!

So this weekend, I was excited to hear from Melissa, who used the diamond-tufted headboard instructions to create an amazing ottoman for her family room.

Isn’t that amazing?!  She said that her husband built the base with basic lumber from Lowe’s and unfinished legs that they bought online.

I really don’t think I ever would have guessed that it was a DIY project.  Great job, Melissa (and Melissa’s hubby)!!

Want to make your own headboard?  Click here to view the instructions.  And if you’re seriously considering making your own, be sure to read through the comments as well.  I’ve answered lots of questions there, and several readers who tried the project also left their own tidbits of advice.

A House Like No Other

Posted by: admin    in Boca Raton Interior Design

I’m still in the process of visiting all of the great projects and rooms linked up from this week’s Addicts (not so) Anonymous link party.  I’ve seen some really fantastic and inspiring things from you, and have gotten lots of inspiration for future projects.  So thanks to each of you who linked up!

But while I was clicking away and reading various blog posts, one in particular caught my eye, and I just had to share it with you in case you missed it.

If you’ve read this blog for long at all, you know I like things that are different…unique…out of the ordinary.  Enter…The Weld House.

No, it’s not completely decorated yet (heck, the Welding Wife and her super handy hubby only moved in last November), but you can still see how amazing this house is because it’s all of the finishes and materials that make this house so unique.  Oh, let me shut up and just let you take a look…

weld house 1

I love it!  The combination of the corrugated metal ceiling, the aged woods, and the stone is simply perfect!

weld house 2

Don’t you just love that massive rough hewn tree trunk column?!

weld house 3

More metal and wood…the perfect combo.

This is the master bedroom.  I really like the flowy, feminine bedding with the wood wall.

weld house 6

The master bathroom.  Aren’t those medicine cabinets fantastic?

weld house 7

The guest bathroom.  I simply love the metal wainscoting.

Another view of that same bathroom.  The combo of the rough and worn finishes with the ruffled shower curtain is just wonderful.

Isn’t this a beautiful and unique home?!  I just love seeing people branch out to do something different.  I’m really looking forward to watching the progress on this house.

If you’d like to see more pictures, and follow along as Mrs. Welder and her fabulously handy hubby put the finishing touches on their home, click here to visit The Weld House.

Cassandra’s dining room is finally finished!!  It was a long project, taking right at a year to complete, but I think the final result is quite spectacular.

For those of you who don’t remember Cassandra, let me start at the beginning.

Cassandra contacted me at the beginning of last year wanting help with her dining room.  At the time her dining room looked like this…

cassandras dining room before 1
cassandras dining room before 2
cassandras dining room before 3
cassandras dining room before 4
cassandras dining room before 5

This room was a challenge for several reasons, including the wall of windows and doors, and also the size of the room.  I don’t know the exact size, but it’s really big!!

So I did a Virtual Room (re)Design to get Cassandra going in the right direction.

You can click here to see the rest of the Cassandra’s Virtual Room (re)Design.

Most of the work on the room was done by Cassandra and her husband, but since they’re only a thirty minute drive away from where I live, I was a little more involved in this redesign than I usually am with my Virtual Room (re)Design clients.  My drapery fabricator, Faye, made the draperies for the room, I installed them, and I did some of the accessorizing.  Other than that, Cassandra and her hubby tackled the rest themselves!

Ready to see how it turned out?  Here it is!

Isn’t that an awesome room?!  I just love how it all came together.  That turquoise piano has to be one of my favorite features of the room, right along with the bright floral dining chairs.  But my absolute favorite thing in the room…the draperies!!  I just never get tired of that Imperial Trellis fabric.

Now of course, I have to end by giving you a couple of “quick view” before and afters.  Just move your cursor back and forth over the pictures below to see each before and after view.

So what do you think? It’s definitely different from anything I’ve designed before, which I LOVE!! It was so fun to work with someone who has different, eclectic, outside-of-the-box taste, which is actually quite a rare opportunity for me here in central Texas. Sometimes it’s just nice to let your hair down and have a little fun!

Monday night feast

Posted by: admin    in Home Magazine

Last night the hubby and I had a very late supper to make up for the “fancy” supper we’d planned for Sunday, his one day off. We’d planned to cook supper together and sit down at the table and eat, with candles, flowers and everything. (We do that sometimes ) Mark works all day (10am-9pm) most of the week so we decided that I’d just make supper Monday night and we’d eat when he got home, around 10pm. We don’t usually go to bed until around midnight, so a 10pm dinner is doable for us. I t
